Regard the “stranger”

: the immigrant, the ethnic minority, the colonist, the foreign merchant, the partisan, the other gender, ancestors, new technologies, gods other than my own.

Encounters with the unfamiliar test the very limits of our sense of self, our society and our species.

Regard further, and we find commonalities and our own selves reflected in the stranger. Each of us at once face and embody the stranger.
